- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- Buttercream frosting
- Green and pink food coloring
- Edible gold leaf for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, level the tops of the cakes if necessary.
- Frost the top of one cake layer with buttercream, then place the second layer on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with more buttercream.
- Divide the frosting into two bowls. Color one bowl with green food coloring and the other with pink.
- Using a spatula or piping bags, create a marbled effect on the cake by alternating the green and pink frosting.
- Decorate the cake with edible gold leaf to represent the Taurus constellation.
