Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove cakes from the oven and allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
