Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the buttermilk with salt and a pinch of black pepper. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- In another bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, the remaining salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each breast in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Place the breaded chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray.
- Cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Remove from the air fryer and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra crispy chicken, you can double-dip by returning the chicken to the buttermilk after the first flour coating and then re-coating with flour.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
- You can add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for additional flavor.
