Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups frosting (buttercream or cream cheese recommended)
- Graduation-themed decorations (like edible caps or diplomas)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the other layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
- Decorate with graduation-themed decorations as desired.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the flavors by adding cocoa powder for a chocolate cake or citrus zest for a lemon cake.
- You can use store-bought frosting to save time.
- For a fun touch, use colored sprinkles that match the school’s colors.
