- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Royal icing for decoration (colored for caps and gowns)
- Black candy melts (for graduation caps)
- Miniature chocolate candies (for caps)
- Gold or silver edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass to form a cookie shape.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.
- Once cooled, decorate the cookies with royal icing to resemble graduation gowns. Use colored icing to create the gown and black candy melts for the graduation caps.
- Place a miniature chocolate candy on top of each cap and sprinkle with edible glitter if desired.
- Let the decorations dry completely before serving.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling for easier handling.
- Feel free to customize the gown colors to match your school colors.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
