This beautifully decorated flag cake is perfect for patriotic holidays like the Fourth of July! It’s a vanilla cake topped with whipped cream and fresh berries to create an American flag design.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cake is cooled, spread the whipped cream evenly over the top.
- Decorate with sliced strawberries and blueberries to create the flag design.
- Chill for about 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For an extra flavor, you can add almond extract to the cake batter.
- Make sure to use fresh berries for the best flavor and presentation.
- You can also use a store-bought cake mix if you’re short on time.
