- 4 (4 oz each) cube steaks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- Cooking spray for air frying
- For the gravy:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk.
- In a third bowl, place breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, then dip into the buttermilk mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Arrange the breaded steaks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, and spray lightly with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- While the steaks are cooking, prepare the gravy: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until lightly browned.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the crispy chicken fried steak hot, smothered in creamy country gravy.
